The Advisory Committee on Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE), together with the Artificial Intelligence Special Interest Group are pleased to announce the International Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Information Integrity under the theme:

Building Trust: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Information Integrity.

The hybrid seminar will take place on August 8, 2024, as part of the Mexican Information Global Forum MEXINFO in Mexico City from August 5–9, 2024, sponsored by the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is driving a profound revolution in the information landscape. While AI holds immense potential for libraries in areas like information curation and user engagement, it also presents significant challenges, particularly regarding its threat to Information Integrity. The WEF Global Risks Report (2024) recently defined misinformation and disinformation as the most severe global risk over the next two years. Information integrity offers a constructive perspective on how to deal with the issues of deepfakes, hate speech, misinformation, and disinformation. This seminar seeks to explore the complex interplay between AI and information integrity, fostering an open dialogue on the potential benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations involved.

The conference welcomes proposals for presentations on topics related to AI and Information Integrity:

• AI-powered tools for detecting misinformation and disinformation campaigns.
• Algorithmic bias and its impact on information fairness and trust
• Addressing the risks of deepfakes and synthetic media
• The role of librarians as curators
• Information integrity and the Sustainable Development Goals
• The impact of AI on scientific research integrity and reproducibility • Societal and policy implications of AI in the information ecosystem • Promoting critical information literacy to counter AI misinformation and disinformation

Submissions should focus on practical solutions, case studies, and research findings.

• Name, title, institution, country, and email of speaker(s)
• Title of proposed presentation
• Abstract of presentation in Englis (max 300 words)
• Language of presentation (English or Spanish)
• Brief biographical statement about the speaker(s) (max 100 words)

Proposals are due by 3 May, 2024, and notification of acceptance will be provided by 14 May, 2024. All proposals and presentation slides will be required to be in English. The languages for the presentations at the Seminar are English and Spanish, and simultaneous translation will be available.

Please note: • Although it is a hybrid seminar, we encourage participants to present in person.
• All expenses for attending the symposium (e.g., travel, Hotels, etc.) are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA or the organizers, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors in order to support travel requirements.
